Bold jumping spiders (Phiddipus audax) are compact, curious hunters with distinctive forward-facing eyes and impressive jumping ability. These spiders are known for their intelligence, personality, and relatively docile temperament, making them engaging pets for keepers of all experience levels. Bold jumping spiders are native to North America. Males are generally smaller and more colorful than females, displaying iridescent chelicerae and vibrant markings. They are solitary and should be housed individually. Lifespan is approximately 1 year for males and up to 2 years for females. House your spider in a small enclosure (1-5 gallons) with vertical space for climbing and jumping. Maintain temperatures between 70–80°F with moderate humidity (50–60%). Provide a secure hide, live plants or décor for enrichment, and a shallow water dish. Feed appropriately-sized live insects (fruit flies, small crickets) 2–3 times weekly, and as adults feed once a week. Remove uneaten prey within 24 hours. Handle gently and infrequently to minimize stress. Ensure secure enclosure ventilation and escape-proof design, as these spiders are curious and active explorers.
