The Phormingochilus arboricola, commonly known as the Borneo Black Tarantula, is a striking arboreal species native to the rainforests of Borneo. This specimen as an adult features a glossy black carapace and body, making it a visually impressive addition to any collection. Borneo Black Tarantulas are moderately sized arboreal hunters that thrive in vertical enclosures with ample climbing space. They require a substrate depth of 2–3 inches and prefer temperatures between 75–80°F with moderate humidity levels of 60–70%. Provide cork bark, branches, or artificial plants to encourage natural web-building and climbing behavior. These tarantulas are generally docile but can be defensive when threatened. Feeding frequency depends on size and age—typically every 5–7 days with appropriately sized prey such as crickets or roaches. Ensure fresh water is always available via a water dish or regular misting. Phormingochilus arboricola has a moderate growth rate and can live 12–15 years in captivity with proper care. This species is ideal for keepers with some tarantula experience who appreciate arboreal species and can maintain stable environmental conditions.
