The Selenocosmia sp. "Kordillera Earth Tiger" is a robust, ground-dwelling tarantula native to the Philippines. This species features striking earth-tone coloration with subtle tiger-like markings, making it a visually compelling addition to any collection. Kordillera Earth Tigers are moderately fast growers with a docile temperament, though they can be defensive when threatened. They thrive in a terrestrial setup with 4–6 inches of substrate for burrowing, moderate humidity (60–70%), and temperatures between 75–80°F. Provide a hide or allow them to construct their own burrow. Feed unsexed juveniles appropriately-sized insects—crickets, roaches—every 5–7 days. Water should be available via a shallow dish or misted substrate. This species is relatively low-maintenance and suitable for intermediate keepers with basic tarantula experience. Lifespan varies by sex: females typically live 12–15 years, while males live 3–4 years. Handle minimally to reduce stress and potential injury.
