The Desert Hairy Scorpion is a robust, popular species native to arid regions of the southwestern United States and Mexico. These scorpions feature a distinctive hairy exoskeleton and typically reach 3–4 inches in length. They thrive in warm, dry environments with temperatures between 75–85°F and low humidity. Housing should include a 10-gallon minimum enclosure with 4–6 inches of substrate for burrowing, hiding spots, and appropriate décor. Feed appropriately-sized insects like crickets and roaches every 5–7 days; juveniles require smaller prey. While generally solitary and docile toward humans, handle with care as they possess venom and will defend themselves if threatened. Lifespan typically ranges from 4–6 years in captivity.
