The Oklahoma Brown Tarantula (Aphonopelma hentzi) is a hardy, docile species ideal for both beginners and experienced keepers. Native to the south-central United States, this terrestrial tarantula features rich brown coloration and a calm temperament, making it one of the most popular pet tarantulas.
Care Requirements: Provide a 10-gallon enclosure with 2–3 inches of substrate for burrowing. Maintain temperatures between 70–80°F and moderate humidity (50–60%). Feed juveniles weekly with appropriately-sized insects; adults every 7–10 days. Provide a shallow water dish and minimal handling to reduce stress.
Lifespan & Behavior: Females live 12–15 years; males 3–6 years. They are generally docile but will bite if threatened. This species is an excellent choice for keepers seeking a low-maintenance, long-lived companion with minimal special requirements.
