The Columbian Giant Red Leg (Megaphobema robustum) is one of the largest and most impressive tarantula species, prized by experienced keepers for its striking appearance. This heavy-bodied spider features distinctive reddish-orange leg markings and can reach a leg span of 7–8 inches at maturity. Housing: Provide an enclosure with at least 20 gallons of floor space and 12 inches of vertical height. Use a substrate mix of coconut husk and peat moss, 4–6 inches deep, to support burrowing behavior. Maintain temperatures between 75–80°F and humidity around 75–80%. Feeding: Offer appropriately sized prey (crickets, roaches) every 7–10 days for juveniles; adults may feed less frequently. Remove uneaten prey within 24 hours. Handling: While generally docile, this species can be defensive when threatened. Handling is not recommended; instead, observe and appreciate from a distance.
