The Psalmopoeus reduncus, commonly known as the Costa Rican Orange-mouth Tarantula, is a fast-moving arboreal species prized by experienced keepers. Named for its distinctive orange fangs and mouthparts, this tarantula displays striking coloration and active hunting behavior. Native to Central America, this species thrives in warm, humid environments. Maintain temperatures between 75–80°F with humidity around 75–80%. Provide a tall enclosure with vertical space for webbing and climbing, along with cork bark or branches for anchor points. A 5-gallon vertical container works well for juveniles; adults need proportionally larger setups. Feed appropriately-sized insects—crickets, roaches—every 5–7 days. Remove uneaten prey within 24 hours. Provide fresh water via a water dish or by misting the enclosure walls. This species is fast and defensive, making it best suited for keepers with prior tarantula experience. Handle minimally and use caution during feeding and maintenance. Venom is mild but bites are painful; always prioritize safety. Lifespan averages 12–15 years for females and 3–6 years for males. With proper care, this captive-bred specimen makes a rewarding addition to an experienced collection.
